Many moons ago The Monster had an epic culinary feast at Johannes.  Back in Palm Springs and ready to see how the Cal/Austrian holds up.

The room is horrendous in an eighties color scheme/motif in the light of day and only becomes more refined and dignified as the sun goes down.  By the time The Monster leaves the place is actually good looking.  Goes to show how quickly perception can change.

A glass of delicious sangria along with bread and an amazingly fresh pesto tasting dip start us off.

Honey and soy glazed duck breast with beluga lentil salad, tiny greens and raspberry vinaigrette is the starter. Seared duck is tender and pairs perfectly with the lentils.  A sweetness lingers. Fantastic.

The first entree is seared Maine scallops with potato, fire roasted corn, leek, wild arugula risotto with black truffle reduction. Three large scallops are well seasoned and the accompanying risotto lovely, too bad the scallops are a touch undercooked.

As for the crispy roasted duck with braised red cabbage, napkin bread pudding, and wild blueberry sauce, it is tasty for sure but on the dryer end of the spectrum.  Having had a few outstanding duck dishes recently this one doesn’t quite measure up.

All in, an enjoyable meal with pleasant service but not wholly the stand-out meal The Monster recalls. The Monster will return on his next trip PS way and recommends you check it out as well.

Why go?  As the sun sets it is like being in a Terrell art exhibit in Johannes.
