Moon House.  New Chinese spot on Santa Monica and Sepulveda. Don’t expect smiles or friendliness. Do expect a weird chandelier and purple LED glow meets Chinese resto ugly. Long menu of standard dishes.  So far, so expected.

So what exactly is the food like at Moon House?

It will change your fucking life forever. Okay, it will not but if you live Westside you take what you can and envy our ES brethren who have SGV within reach.

The Monster orders the spicy garlic shrimp lunch special. Hot and sour. Brown rice.  Hot tea.

Thirty-seven seconds post order and hot and sour soup is dropped (literally) on the table. Decent.  Has some tanginess to the flavor and doesn’t taste like dirty dish water like other nearby places.

Fifty-four seconds later entree and rice crowds the table. Again, decent. Shrimp is not spicy enough but the vegetables are crisp and the sauce has a nice garlicky note to it.

Check and fortune cookie arrive fourteen seconds later.  Damn, proficient Chinese. No wonder they are kicking our ass in every sector.

The cookie is disgusting.  Tastes Confucius years old which is weird for a brand new spot. The fortune also sucks. Oh well.

Why go? Convenience.

I liked Moon House when I tried it about a month ago. I had the lamb dish which was the first of the listed lunch specials — very good, pretty high quality meat, generous portion. I was impressed by the lighting and decor. As for your shrimp dish, why oh why the ubiquitous, boring onion and green bell pepper? They do offer hot chili oil if you want to spice things up.
