How rare that a legend lives up to the hype.  Too often praise is heaped upon the undeserving. Too many times we get caught up in the moment.  A new restaurant opens and it is declared the be-all, end-all only to close within a year.  Everyone raves about the new sushi place until it is realized the joint sucks.

And then there is Dino’s Chicken and Burgers.

A counter order, fast food spot where you are coming for one thing and one thing only.  Glorious char-broiled chicken served on top of addictively soggy French fries with warm tortillas and a side of slaw.

For less then six dollars you’ll immediately (they know why you are here) be treated to a feast and wonder if all other fries have now been ruined to you.

They have.

But that chicken.  Orange and red and charred and juicy. It too is a star.

You rip into the food (good on you if you have room for the slaw) and devour it greedily and without remorse like a perv in a Thai sex shop.

And you’ll be happy knowing there is a reason this place is so venerated. Because it lives up to the hype and then some.

Why go?  You need your faith restored.

Reason for the cole slaw — you rip off some tortilla, put in a strip of chicken, cover with a few fries in the “sauce,” and then top with some slaw, and devour. Perfect assemblage.

I hit Dino’s from Westwood at least once every couple of weeks, sometimes on the way home from Griffith Park golf.
