REVIEW: DEVI GARH

Perched high above the charming valley below, Devi Garh is an original 18th century Rajput Palace now operating as a minimalist, contemporary hotel host to many Bollywood weddings.

The multi-cuisine restaurant offers traditional Rajathstani cuisine as well as a menu of Continental dishes in a white marbled, white-pillared room featuring Indian murals. A small patio overlooks the beautiful pool and grounds.

Murgh tikka adraki with tempered cured chilies starts The Monster off.  Ginger flavored chicken, basted in a clay oven.  Charred, smoky, spicy and delicious.  Perfect start to the meal.

Meanwhile, a Mezze platter of hummus, mutabel and labneh is the second appetizer.   Not so much.  Bland is the overriding theme here.

Malabaru fish curry in tangy onion tomato gravy tempered with curry leaves is the main course and it is ethereal in flavor.  Delicate morsels of fish in a stunning broth.

Subz handi is a melange of seasonal vegetables simmered in a rich cashew gravy infused with fenugreek leaves.  This is similarly special.  Rich and creamy.

Besides the one misstep ordering off of the continental menu the meal lingers long after leaving. A sign of true delight.

Why go?  You’re a Bollywood star.
