Chicken shawarma on laffa from Ta-Eem is why The Monster finds himself in hipsterville-doucheria despite horrible parking and worse tattoos on Melrose. But this plate of food is worth so much more than that. It is a reminder of why The Monster carts himself around this fair city of ours in search of the next incredible bite from the least likely of places.
The perfect combination of chewy, saucy, spicy, crunchy, Jewy goodness. This is not even so much a restaurant (only a few tables) as a ray of sunshine and happiness on an otherwise cheesy stretch of Los Angeles.
From an unbelievably gracious staff to modest prices to food that will make you weep, Ta-Eem is the embodiment of great eats.
Served with a side of pickles this giant portion of comfort is accompanied by a group of patrons (their New York accents thick and star of David necklaces prominent) proclaiming the food here better than in Israel. Along with a television playing soccer in Hebrew that’s about all the atmosphere you’ll get. Who needs more once you bite into this blessed food?
The Monster just might have to brave the piercings and trucker hats to eat here more often.
Why go? It is better than in Israel.
