Eddie V’s is that jazz inflected, martini swilling, beautiful people bobbing steak and seafood joint that every great city has. In LA it’s Mastros and in Austin it’s this hopping spot on San Jacinto and 5th.
To the left of the hostess stand is the lounge and bar where a swinging band belts out “Come Rain or Come Shine” as The Monster glides in. It was the song of his first dance with his bride so it portends to be a great night.
While sipping on a cocktail (the first of a few, they go down easy here) The Monster spies a patron at the bar with a gorgeous pile of Alaskan king crab legs before him. The season for these sweet delicacies has begun and the order on this eve is decided.
The room to the right is the restaurant proper and our table is smack in the middle of all the action. Our amiable and fantastic waiter Sully is always at hand to make sure we’re topped off and happy.
One pound of Alaskan king crab legs de-shelled, sides of sweet corn, crab fried rice with mushrooms and mac n’ cheese make the grade for this dinner and it’s a winner throughout.
For the meat lovers the proclamation comes from another guest at the table that the steak is simply one of the best he’s ever had. The fish similarly receives glowing accolades.
The Monster feels gluttonous (and tipsy) after taking down a calorie-laden feast and so the call is rightly made for the flaming bananas foster cake dessert along with a glass of late harvest viognier so that exiting Eddie V’s will surely occur whilst riding in a wheelbarrow.
And sure enough, the fantastic evening comes to an end with a fully sated Monster limping his way off to a night of Austin debauchery while cursing his own hedonistic leanings.
Why go? You’re one hep cat.
