Capitol Grille in Palm Beach is the restaurant location Papa Monster chooses for his 73rd birthday celebration.  Now nine years removed from throat cancer that nearly took his life and robbed him of his ability to eat and drink (save the Jack Daniels he sips on tonight), the Monster family is always happy for a reason to celebrate good times together.

With a menu of steak and seafood classics, a masculine vibe of dark woods, deer heads, large red leather banquettes and warm and inviting service, the Monsters enjoy Capital Grille not just for the delicious food but also because Mama Monster can get her black golf tees and the restaurant isn’t too loud for Papa Monster even when hopping (which it invariably is).

Shrimp cocktail starts us off.  Huge, plump shrimp and a wonderfully spicy cocktail sauce where you can taste the horseradish as it tickles your nose.

For the first entree it’s lobster ravioli in a buerre blanc sauce with asparagus and lobster tails.  A touch sweet from the lobster, the sauce is delightful and the dish pairs perfectly with the crunch of the asparagus.

Lobster and crab stuffed shrimp is the other call and it’s bound to be good and this version doesn’t disappoint.  Rich, decadent and perfect for The Monster’s breakfast in the morning since he can’t finish it all.

As for sides, they are served family style and on this night we decide on asparagus and green beans served with onion and heirloom tomato.  The vaunted lobster mac is wonderful but we opt out on this evening.

For dessert a creme brule cheesecake with a candle to celebrate another healthy and happy year for Papa Monster.

To say that the entire meal tastes better with family as we toast Papa Monster on his birthday would be entirely true.

On par with Morton’s and Ruth’s Chris, Capital Grille is a national chain that while breaking no new ground accomplishes what it does entirely well.

Why go?  It’s Papa Monster’s birthday!
