There are occasions when a review goes into great detail about food, ambiance, service – waxing poetic or poetically denigrating a restaurant.  And then there are times when few words are needed.

In the case of Angelini Osteria few words are required.  It was the best meal of the year for The Monster and it isn’t even close.  Perfect service, a decadently delicious meal and fantastic wine.  Combine that with great company and you have the recipe for a magical evening.

The meal kicks off with polipo warm octopus with arugula and cherry tomatoes.  It is wonderful.  Flavorful and delicious.

Tagliatelle with duck ragout is the next dish to be sampled and it’s the best thing The Monster has eaten all year.  It’s perfectly prepared pasta with an insanely flavorful duck accompaniment.  He threatens to order a second helping for dessert.  And he means it.

That is before the turbot alla Mediterranean with cherry tomatoes, capers, potatoes and onions for two is brought to the table.  It is, even when divided between two plates, the single largest portion of food The Monster has been served all year.  That would normally be masking the fact that the dish isn’t terribly good.  In the hands of Angelini Osteria that just means The Monster has more delectable food to share with the other guests because he can’t finish it.

Fully satiated and unbelievably happy (there are quite a few empty bottles of wine littering the table), The Monster waves off dessert (it would have been the tagliatelle with duck if he had room) and realizes that Angelini Osteria is a restaurant he must frequent more often.

Why go?  You like magic.
